Facebook are trialling a wiki like product called “Community Pages” to allow communities within Facebook to build knowledge bases about topics they are interested in.
They are seeding the pages with Wikipedia content but asking Facebookers to evolve the content.
One of the reasons Wikipedia has done so well is down to the ownership (or lack of) of the content and its lack of advertising making it appeal to those who worry about a corporate controlling it.
It will be very interesting to see whether these concerns raise themselves within the Facebook community. I suspect they won’t.
I’ll discuss the advertising impact in a separate post.
