Facebook Wants You to “Like” Brands
There’s a change happening to Facebook’s brand interaction – to receive information in your news stream gone will be the ‘Become a Fan’, in will come the simple ‘Like’.
What are your thoughts? Will this make it easier for brands to gain a following? As a user is the change in wording an unfair and covert way to get brand message in front of you?

Hmm… I can see why they want to do this to help brands promote themselves more on Facebook but at the end of the day it should be all about what’s good for the user and I think the ‘like’ button is in a way misguiding users. Although I don’t think ‘Become a fan’ is perfect, I think people understand that they will receive updates in doing so. Perhaps this is where Facebook needs to separate Groups from Businesses.
I don’t think Facebook has ever really managed to get a grip on the groups/pages split, but I can see the difficulty. They’re trying to protect the interests of companies, seperating user ‘groups’ to ensure that they can’t impinge upon brands u2013 let’s be honest brands are where the money is going to come from. But is the ‘Like’ button could be a step too far in terms of prioritising brands over users…
