Whilst not talking about optimising for search engines per se, Seth Godin’s recent post on the topic of optimising , actually has a lot of parallels to our approach to search engine optimisation (SEO).

That’s one reason I resist the temptation to optimize this blog for traffic and yield. I’d rather force myself to improve it by having the guts to write better posts instead.

On many occasions we find ourselves not doing things that standard SEO practise may suggest we should do.  This tends to be more subtle than the “putting the user first” maxim that should dictate the application of SEO techniques.  Its’ probably more connected with priority lists, being human, simple ROI,  a gut feeling that proper marketing is likely to win out in the end and/or other things that I can’t quite put my finger on!
