Microsoft have announced in their IE Blog that they will be launching version seven of their widely used Internet Explorer web browser this month.
You are probably thinking so what, I am only interested in marketing my website, I don’t need to worry about tech stuff. This however is one where marketers need to pay a little bit of attention as the update will impact so many users.
The key point in their blog:
“will be delivered to customers via Automatic Updates a few weeks after it’s available for download”
So it won’t be the gradual migration that we have seen with past versions. This is why it is probably worth your while downloading the pre-release version and having a quick play to make sure your website functions properly. Run a quick test to make sure you can achieve your primary goals (e.g. sale or enquiry form) so you know your conversions will not be affected.
This new version of IE has added many of the good features of the widely acclaimed Firefox browser including tabbed browsing and the ability to easily subscribe to feeds (such as the one here for Attacat News).
Of course the feature we are most interested in is the search box included in the browser as a default. Certainly a topic I’ll post about. It has already caused us to get on the phone to Microsoft.
