It what is already shaping up to be the best communicated search engine platform transition ever, we got an email this morning from Microsoft AdCenter confirming that the UK transition of Yahoo! search to being powered by Microsoft’s Bing and AdCenter search offerings is on target for early 2011.
Reading between the lines it seems they are slightly ahead of schedule so it wouldn’t surprise me if they are creating work for us in January, rather than say March (which was our original estimate). From the e-mail:
Microsoft Advertising adCenter now provides the paid search results for Yahoo! Search, Bing, and our premium partners in the United States and Canada, and Bing supplies the organic search results for Yahoo! Search. With this milestone successfully achieved, we anticipate starting the organic and paid search transitions in select markets in Europe in early 2011, and plan to complete the transitions with quality in all European markets by early 2012. We intend to start with the United Kingdom, France and Ireland, with other markets to follow.
Either way it’s all in hand from our point of view anyway. We watched the US transition with interest and can apply the lessons learned.
