Thanks Peter.

I'd agree that campaign tagging across multiple links is probably a little more advanced but if you've got a few links then it'll save time! I've tried to make it as user friendly as possible...

Nice simple interface on yours though ;) Might be worth creating an Excel version of your with the simplified buttons - if I get a few minutes I will!

Hi Ben, nice template for advanced users! But tagging URL's is for many people too complicated - so for them I made Simple Tag ;) http://www.foretaster.com/simpletag/

They don’t need to decide what to add as medium or source.

Hi Tom

You are responsible for third party cookies so there is a risk. Assessing that risk though has to include deciding how likely it would be that the ICO would come after you first or the third parties. We do describe third party cookies in our privacy policy and take a view that we do need to get consent from our visitors. How we define what consent is though is where our approach may or may not be compliant.

I don't know much about Big Cartel and part of your audit may be to send a request to them asking what they use cookies for. Odds are that they will use cookies that should be addressed under the law. Whether they would score 2, 3, 4, or 5 on our scale I couldn't say.

Hi there,

Just tested the tool on a website for my band (site is about a year or so old, has been done quite shabbily and contains very out of date info!), and it seems useful.
Just to let you know, one of the sites linked on our page that came up 'unknown' in the report is a site called Big Cartel. This is a website that allows people to set up online stores, through which people can buy products via paypal or, I believe, normal card payment. I'm not sure as to their 'naughtiness', but they seem ok to me.
I was wondering though, all of the cookies picked up on my site were 3rd party, there did not appear to be any 1st party cookies. The 3rd included facebook, twitter and google... Does this pose a risk to me at all? I'm not sure whether the law dictates that I can be held responsible for cookies gained from sites that are linked on my own; in particular google, as this was via youtube videos embedded on the page. Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks for creating this tool and making it available.

Thanks for the comment Matthew, glad you like the site! Social signals are interesting because there's a high possibility they could be 'gamed' even worse than links. Authorship trust is likely to be more important in the algorithm soon – keep checking back for the latest news and thoughts!

An interesting article with some great tips but you clearly need to take heed of Tip 4, yourself.

Don't use acronyms without explaining them first, please, CRO (that usually means Criminal Records Organisation to me); CTA (this might mean Canadian Transportation Agency, Chicago Transit Authority, Cumulative Translation Adjustment or any of a whole lot of other meanings) though I wonder if it means Call to Action here.

Tip 6: What commonly available shopping cart systems offer checkout progress tabs ?

Tip 7: I don't know of any commonly available shopping cart systems that allow me to configure the cart cookie expiration delay - perhaps you could share that info with your readers ?

There's certainly more and more interest in how Domain / Page Authority are calculated, and the ways to improve them. Certainly, the trust factor is increasingly going to be more important and Google+ / Facebook likes are also likely to be added to show signs of trust (which is likely to favour the bigger brands).

Really well designed website by the way.
